El Pati del Gall: a cooperative housing project built with CLT wood and focused on sustainability
El Pati del Gall is not just a new cooperative housing building in Vilafranca del Penedès (Catalonia), but a pioneering example of how construction can be done with people and the planet in mind. It is a project promoted by Sostre Cívic, which advocates sustainable construction using CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) wood as the main structural system.
What is CLT wood and why is it a sustainable option?
CLT wood is an innovative material made of layers of wood glued in cross directions. This technique not only offers structural strength and energy efficiency but also drastically reduces CO₂ emissions associated with traditional construction.
Moreover, wood is a natural, renewable, and recyclable material, with a much lower ecological footprint than concrete or steel. Thanks to these qualities, buildings made with CLT provide thermal comfort, improve indoor air quality, and reduce energy consumption.
A cooperative project with social and environmental values
El Pati del Gall represents a new way to understand housing: collaborative, ecological, and rooted in the territory. The cooperative model allows members to actively participate in decision-making and promotes a fairer and more democratic economy.
A project by Sostre Cívic in collaboration with Madergia
The construction of this building has been carried out with the expertise of Madergia, a company specialized in solid CLT wood structures, bringing technical experience and a commitment to sustainability.
With this project, Sostre Cívic reinforces its commitment to an alternative, accessible, and environmentally respectful housing model.
